Reporting an error

This is the message we most want to receive. If a duration here contradicts a federal source, we want to know today. Please include the page URL, what we say, and what you believe is correct — a link to the USDA, FDA, FoodSafety.gov, or CDC page you are working from makes it much faster for us to verify and fix.

We correct confirmed errors on the page itself and move the review date so the change is visible. See our editorial policy for how that process works.

Requesting a food

If you searched for something and came up empty, tell us what you were looking for. Gaps that real people hit are how we decide what to add next, and they are far more useful to us than a general suggestion list.

Questions about sourcing

Happy to explain where any specific number came from. Every page cites its sources, but if a citation is unclear or you want to know how we resolved a conflict between two federal sources, ask.

What we cannot help with

We cannot give medical advice. If you think you have a foodborne illness, contact a healthcare provider. For severe symptoms — high fever, bloody stool, prolonged vomiting, signs of dehydration, or neurological symptoms such as blurred vision or difficulty swallowing — seek care immediately rather than emailing a website. In the US you can also reach the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.

We cannot judge your specific container of food. We do not know how it was handled, what temperature your fridge actually runs at, or how long it sat out. The honest answer for any borderline case is the same one the USDA gives: when in doubt, throw it out.

We do not accept guest posts, sponsored content, link insertions, or paid placements. No storage duration on this site is for sale, and we do not respond to outreach about buying one. See about for how the site is funded.
