Terms of use

Last updated August 18, 2026.

The short version

This site publishes food-storage guidance drawn from federal sources. It is general information, not advice about the specific container of food in your hand, and it comes with no guarantee. If you are unsure whether something is safe, throw it out. Everything below is the longer form of that.

Accepting these terms

By using StillGood? you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site. There is no account to close and nothing to cancel — we do not hold anything of yours.

What this site is

StillGood? re-presents publicly available food-storage guidance from the USDA, FDA, FoodSafety.gov, and CDC across 155 food entries. Each entry cites the sources behind its numbers and shows the date it was last reviewed.

We work carefully and correct errors quickly, but we do not warrant that every entry is complete, current, or free of mistakes. Federal guidance is revised, and our review cadence means there can be a window where a page trails its source. The government pages we link to are always authoritative over us.

This is not medical or professional advice

Nothing on this site is medical advice. We are not doctors, dietitians, food scientists, or certified food-safety professionals, and we say so plainly on our about page. If you believe you have a foodborne illness, contact a healthcare provider. For severe symptoms — high fever, bloody stool, prolonged vomiting, dehydration, or neurological symptoms such as blurred vision or difficulty swallowing — seek care immediately. In the US you can also reach the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.

Our guidance is also not a substitute for professional food-handling requirements. If you run a commercial kitchen, a food business, or an institutional facility, your local health code governs, not this website.

Storage windows are general, your food is specific

Every published duration assumes conditions we cannot verify in your kitchen: a refrigerator holding at or below 40°F, a freezer at 0°F, sound packaging, and food that was safe when it went in. We do not know how long your groceries sat in a warm car, what your fridge actually runs at, or how the item was handled before you bought it.

You are responsible for judging your own food. Use our numbers as a starting point, not as permission. When the evidence in front of you disagrees with a number on this site, trust what you can see and smell — and when in doubt, throw it out.

Limitation of liability

This site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, StillGood? and its maintainers are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of this site or your reliance on anything published here — including illness, spoiled food, or discarded food. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.

What you may reuse

The underlying storage durations come from US government publications and are in the public domain. Take those freely and cite the federal source directly — we would rather you go upstream.

The writing, page structure, category organization, and design on this site are ours. You may quote reasonable excerpts with attribution and a link. You may not republish entries wholesale, scrape the catalog to build a competing index, or use this site's content to train a model for a derivative product without our written permission.

Journalists and educators are welcome to quote and link — see contact.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to disrupt the site, hammer it with automated requests, misrepresent it as your own, or present our guidance in a way that strips the safety context from it. Do not use the site in violation of any applicable law.

Links to other sites

We link to federal sources on nearly every page, and occasionally elsewhere. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.

Advertising

This site is supported by display advertising. Advertisers have no editorial input, and no storage duration on this site is for sale. We are not responsible for the content of third-party ads or for anything you buy from an advertiser — that transaction is between you and them. See our privacy policy and cookie policy for what advertising means for your data.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will move the "last updated" date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
